Autorickshaw Andolan of Mira Road: story of a andolan fought over two years with successful result

Image
I wanted to write this but didn’t get time so am writing this now ,the auto meter has been implemented in mira road successfully since past 6 moths now.The story starts from Anna andolan, after the andolan we had a big team of IAC members ,we got into habit of going for candle march in the evenings, after annaji ended his Anshan we no more had the reason to gather in public places and make the people aware of the injustice in the society. All of us ,we were around fifty then, some of them eminent and established social workers stayed at home for 2-3 days. But it turned out to be harder than we thought,we were in a habit,no matter how hard we tried we kept feeling something missing in life. Finally we had a ,meeting on the foot over bridge of mira road station and decided we have to keep on fighting, maybe for local issues now.Someone suggested us the  issue of autorickshaw running on meter, imtiyaz the only member that time with a lot of legal knowledge  told us that the issue wa...

18 year old Hero Deepti who took on Builder and Politician Nexus in Mira road

Image
I have seen a lot of courageous women in my life, maybe more than i have seen courageous men,but women due to their responsibilities and roles seldom come out of their homes and fight on the streets. But this courageous 18 year old has changed my perception on brave women who take on the world head on. Deepti ghoshal is an 18 year old college student, she has her exams next month but her life changed when her home where she has been living for the past 15 years was suddenly demolished.Unlike the most residents who thought they were  helpless against the Politician and builder nexus this girl refused to go down without a fight. She filed various RTI's on the name of her mother,we suggested her that since we thought that will keep her safe.It turned out the redevelopment project was a scam, the documents given to these people were not even registered and the area was considered as congested zone hence there was no plan what so ever to redevelop their building. Also it came out to light...

Is Religion really poison?

Image
I have been active on Facebook since the start of anna movement, before that I was just a woman who was frustrated with the rotten system and who would occasionally beat up eve teasers like most of the girls of my city,my social service was limited to that. But as the event of 16 th Aug 2011 unfolded I found a lot of people who were now connected on social media and all of them were frustrated with the corrupt and rotten system the way I was. We all became friends, shared ideas on social media ,all of us wanted to change the corrupt system. But lately things have changed on social media, people are now talking about religion and communal tension. The corrupt system against we came together seems to be lost now. I have  a big question…..What is religion ,for which so many people are willing to kill each other, even kill innocent children. What is this religion? People who were friends, neighbors and countrymen are now thirsty for each other’s blood. I am not a communist, I don’t ...

Battle to get a tetanus shot at Municipal Hospital

Image
When I was a kid there were not many nursing homes we were always sent to government hospitals ,though there was one near our home.My granddad always told me that it was painted with the blood of poor people,it was actually painted pink so i used to take him literally as  always.I came to knoe that it was not actually the blood of poor people when I turned 13,still used to wonder why would a man I considered equivalent to god would ever lie to me. He literally believed that,he was a socialist,he always believed that our public facilites should so good that people would not have to go to private schools or nursing homes. He died twenty years ago ,there were not many nursing homes then, the trend was just starting but now I understand why he was so much against the concept of private medial facilities. I dont know how many of you go to government hospitals now,but we mira bhaynder team fought to get our Mira Road Municipal Hospital started, managed to get the OPD started too and n...

Do we really care about our farmers?

Image
‘If you control the oil you control the country; if you control food, you control the population’ Henry Kissinger declared in the 1970’s,  Farmers face unique risks unlike those in other professions. Weather and market conditions outside a producer’s control can have a devastating effect on producers. Agriculture is not a profitable business, it can be clearly understood from the fact that the amount of money involved in growing one kg of wheat is more than the cost.To grow wheat we need seeds, fertilizers ,water, electricity ,insecticides and manpower. No wonder so many farmers commit suicide every year due to the failure of crops and loan sharks.Every twelve minutes a farmer in india tries to commit suicide. Its not difficult to understand the importance of farmers and farming sans any figures. We need food to survive and they are the ones who give their lives to serve us.As our late prime minister said  “Jai Jawan ,Jai Kisan” ,the weight in these words are more than o...

Urmila Pahari: Ordinary Woman ,Extraordinary Courage

Image
I first met this sixty two year old when we were protesting against the arrest of Aseem in Allahabad,a day after his arrest.A lot of people had backed out from the event which I ,along with a few youngsters had organized against the arrest, stating that they too might be tried for sedition if they stood with Aaseem.Anyhow Urmilaji convinced her husband to support the cause and both of them came to the venue to protest along with us,they were the only responsible people in the crowd of youngsters we had gathered. That was the first time I saw something different in her, where most of the elders has backed out she was there and brought her husband too. When she got to know that my mother was battling cancer, she came to visit her, that was the first time she told me that she too was a cancer survivor, she got some chemos but rejected it later for alternative therapy. The idea itself sounded brave to me, but as I knew her more and more, I saw a woman who beat all odds with her courage ev...
