Battle to get a tetanus shot at Municipal Hospital

When I was a kid there were not many nursing homes we were always sent to government hospitals ,though there was one near our home.My granddad always told me that it was painted with the blood of poor people,it was actually painted pink so i used to take him literally as  always.I came to knoe that it was not actually the blood of poor people when I turned 13,still used to wonder why would a man I considered equivalent to god would ever lie to me.

He literally believed that,he was a socialist,he always believed that our public facilites should so good that people would not have to go to private schools or nursing homes.He died twenty years ago ,there were not many nursing homes then,the trend was just starting but now I understand why he was so much against the concept of private medial facilities.

I dont know how many of you go to government hospitals now,but we mira bhaynder team fought to get our Mira Road Municipal Hospital started,managed to get the OPD started too and now somehow the IPD is also working without the proper number of doctors.I preffer to go to public hospitals and see inexpensive doctors.Cant gt my granddad's words out of my head ,no matter how hard I try.

when I was hurt while gardening,I thought it was better to get a tetnus injection,its always better to be safe than to be sorry.It was late so i decided to get it in the morning,I didnt remember it was a sunday.

The next morning I tried to get the injection in the nearby medical shop ,as there are always some compounder sitting there,but to my bad luck there was none.Then I went straight to the Mira bhaynder muncipal corporation hospital.It  says in docs that they operate 24hours casualty,so i thought it wont be difficult.

When I reached i came to know there was no doctor,there was supposed to be one but there was none,two people were admitted in IPD and three women were giving birth in the labour room but there was no doctor.I was told to get it from outside.Being a thick soul I refused,I told them I would wait,I also requested for complaint book ,which to this day they are searching.

After waiting for two hours the doctor arrived,he recommended a tetnus shot and I got it from the nurse,swelling from that shot subsided after 3 days,but I am still happy I got a tetnus shot from a government hospital and now I can take up my fight against them to get proper treatment for poor people.

I read somewhere that  now the government will pay for the treatment of beauracrats and their famailies abrod,they dont feel that its essential to have those maedical facilites for everyone here in India.Our own so called head of the country goes abrod to get treated then what more can be said about the mediacl facilities in india.

But believe me the day when the public schools and hospitals are as good as the private one and the day we will not be scared to get treatment in government hospital or send our kids to government school,I will feel our war is half won......!!!!
