Death Track (Mumbai's western line)
Anyone who has ever travelled in the mumbai locals during peak hours knows whats's it like. But how many of you wondered why its like this,or is there a solutin to this problem. What started as fight to get medical treatment for a 20 year old girl who was injured in railway accident ended in a never ending fight for justice. The girl who does not want to be named was injured in a railway accident as she slipped from the local in the morning peak hours on 22/05/2013 at 9am.The girl was admitted in shah lifeline by railway but the railways refused to give any compensation, and when the brother of the girl went to seek help from railways authority ,he was told that his sister tried to commit suicide..The station master while alleged that the girl claimed the she fell off during peak hours the motor man said that she came in front of the tracks.
This encouraged us to find out how many people died while travelling from bhaynder to borivilli and how many were injured. we got a shocking reply from RTI,up to feb 2013 only were 532 and number of injured were 1,134.this encouraged us further find out how many people were compensated for their loss.To which the railway replied that there were no cases registered under sec 124 of railway insurance act 1989,whereas these cases were to be registered under sec124a of railway insurance act 1989.The answer by railway was misleading. Also when we contacted the families of the deceased since 2007 it turns out the people who have made claims are still fighting in court while in most of the cases the railways have claimed that the mistake was of the deceased and not railways.
We wrote to DRM regarding the matter. This letter was given to the DRM western railways on 30/05/2013, to which he replied on 03/07/2013 stating that there was no plan for expansion or any other plan what so ever to bring relief to the commuters in this region.
it later turned out that western railways had given permission to various builders including tirupati developers to construct buildings on the railways land adjacent to bhaynder station in 2004.this land was kept aside for expansion of railway line as and when required. The western railways have given NOC to various builders to build complexes on railway land which is causing lives of thousands of commuters per year in western line.
However none on the MPs in the region namely sanjay nirupam nor sanjeev naik ever raised a question on this matter in the parliament. It seems that there may be a connivance of the local political class, builders and western railways officials by which they have given railways land to private builders.
Every three days one man looses his life while travelling from Bhaynder to Borivilli. As the population increases so does the number, most of the people loosing their lives are from the age group of 15-35.Since there are no technical colleges in this region the students have to travel every morning to reach their college.
Each day a new family looses their loved one, there life is turned into a nightmare. We dont really care,we go on living the way we always do,but you never know, befor you know it,it maybe someone close to you next.
