India: story of an Indifferent foreign queen and corrupt Nobels

Image
“A Country cannot subsist well without liberty, nor liberty without virtue.”-Rousseau We were all feeling hopeless against this system, took corruption ,organized crime and scams as a part of the system. But since last year we became dreamers again, an old man made us believe that a ray of hope was still alive within each of us. we started to believe that maybe if we speak up we will bring about the change we desired. We saw for the first time in our lives that good people were around us,we started to notice the misery of countrymen to which we had become immune. But as days turned into weeks and weeks into months without any actual result in the form of action taken by the government, many young people started to loose heart. Feeling that maybe it was not their right to dream ,or dreams don’t really come true.I too had similar feelings and started to inquire a lot, asking the people who had taken up many andolan in their lives a...

India :A tale of two counties

Image
When I was a kid Amitabh bacchan was my hero,I was really crazy about him.the way he bashed up all the bad guys, save the damsel in distress,a sort of messiah of anyone who was in distress. He was tall and handsome a perfect paramour ,a perfect brother ,a perfect son and a good citizen in his most famous flick “the Don”.All those roles he played were simply marvellous, there was no actor better than him.Even as I grew up since I hail from the sangam  city of Allahabad I herd how Amitabh bacchan was one of the best M.P.s this city ever had.His  best contribution were prayagraj  express  and blue line busses in Allahabad. We were always told he resigned from his seat and left politics when people associated him with Bofors Scam, everybody here knows Amitabh could never have been a part of something like that but we respected his audacity even more then. Somehow events of past few years dent my faith and respect for him.India is going through a very tough time ri...

By buying coke we became slaves ......

“Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.  “ - Martin Luther King, Jr. Recently I read a news item that in illinos (U.S.) riot police was called to take action on the protesters who were wall-mart employees  protesting in order to get better working conditions in their where houses .Wall –mart is the biggest retailer ,its turnover is more than the GDP of many developing countries. In fact walmart is the 30 th largest economic entity. When our Prime Minister Mr Mute Mohan Singh says that he is under no pressure from US to make this decision, he gives an affirmative signal to the country. This situation is leading us toward a dystopian society were a few powerful corporations are making policies and decisions for the whole country. These greedy ministers and politicians across the world are being bribed by these MNCs to make policies which are beneficial for them. Recently a case where wall mart had given bribe to o...

A Volunteer's letter to the leaders of this movement.

a letter that I wrote to arvindji dated 15/08/2012 a letter that I wrote to arvindji dated 15/08/2012 Dear arvindji I am writing you this letter because its not possible for me to come to delhi this time.I am a student and my husband is in turkey. But none the less I have a lot of questions. I stayed at jantar mantar for around eight days after the announcement for formation of political party was made, after most of the female anshankaris which I was in charge of left, barring those who had joined us on the same day after the announcement for the Anshan left.I had never felt so tired in my life, all the weary of the 10 days I was out of my house and the whole year since 16 aug 2011 all came back at once. I wore you an emotionally charged letter to you after that which, I regret and it was kind of you to reply to that. I thought I will come to terms with the decision as time passed, but I couldn’t .I tried to cool down but sorry this is my coolest, I was emotionally attached ...

Anna Hazare (man before and without I.A.C.)

Image
Anna Hazare It has become a fashion now to say that Anna Hazare has lost it, he is being influenced by some right wing  people and strangest of all that he has come into public eye because of Arvind Kejriwal.I had heard a lot about annaji even before this movement started. He was a man who stood up against injustice, gave his whole life for the welfare of society never even got married as he wanted to serve the nation with his undivided attention. People who say such things about him or question his decision should read a bit about him first. Kisan Baburao Hazare   (born 15 June 1937), popularly known as  Anna Hazare  , an Indian social activist who led movements to promote rural development, increase government transparency, and investigate and punish official corruption. In addition to organizing and encouraging grassroots movements, Hazare frequently conducted hunger strikes to further his causes—a tactic reminiscent, to many, of the work of  Moh...

FDI IN RETAIL MORE BAD NEWS THAN GOOD

Hello everyone, Indian corporate world is Lobbying in favour of FDI in retail. After all we MBAs are given a degree to get jobs at such places.any ways I am attaching some documents and telling you my argument(it has failed in germany) 1.we desperately need investment in our infrastructure ie related to the Retail industry i.e. we need where houses ,better roads and cold storages that will minimise our loss due to rot.All the perishable items procured from the market cannot be sold there has to be some damage, hence the items gets costly. If we have better infrastructure we can minimise this and hence maximise profit and that can be shared with the farmers too. 2. With Fdi manmohan is focusing on immediate inflow of money in our real estate and construction industry which will give jobs to thousands. These giant retailers have to acquire a lot of land in order to start their stores, with sky rocketing prices we will get huge inflow in real estate.next it will also be in construction and in...

Andolan and Us

Image
My elders and my well wishers keep telling me that being a part of such an agitation is a complete waste of time, that I should rater focus on my research and try to get my Phd degree as soon as possible. They tell me that I will gain nothing out of it. But the truth as I see is very different. They might be telling me this because of their experience and they may be having my Interest at heart. But I have a very different experience, when I see myself in retrospect from the kind of person I was before I got involved in this and now, I feel that I have evolved. I was a happy go lucky kind of a person who loved to shop and watch movies. Most of the time I used to be at malls spending time, shopping, eating, and just having fun. I never had any real problems in life now that I think of it. I got whatever I wanted. I work for around two years, first as a banker then as a professor before resuming back to my studies. I always wanted to do something for the society when I was in coll...

Is India heading towards its very own French revolution?

Image
Many a time I wonder about the future of our country and the future of the various movements in our country .Its very hard to foresee and predict the future but I just can’t help wondering about the direction we are heading towards. The very people steering this movement are themselves not very sure of the end result. We just know that enough is enough and the time has come when we cannot afford to sit comfortably at our own cozy home and let these corrupt politicians do as they want to the masses of our country, we know that if we stay silent for any longer we will be a part to the crime. Party to the malnourishment deaths in our country, party to the mass farmer suicide, party to the crime against women, party to a lot of things we would never like to associate ourselves with. We are no more mute spectators; we know we want a change but still not very sure about the form in which we will see that change. If it will be in the fo...

My India Vs The government's India

Image
Yesterday I was outraged with the comment chitambaram made,he compared the price of icecream to the price of rice and wheat. How could he?I am no guru of economics but still I know the difference between luxury items and essential commodities. Ice cream is something the middle class has a privilege of buying for their kids and rice and wheat is something that feeds the poor of this country. I was puzzled, how come a person who has business degree from Harvard commit such blunder while speaking? He had been our finance minister for a long period of time and will again will be soon. But this is not the first time that ministers from so called government of ours have made such statements, not long ago our rural development minister Mr jai ram ramesh made a comment that woment want mobile phones more than they want toilets in India. Is he talking about the same India which I live in? Because in my country every day I read in the news papers about how the women who go in the fields t...

16th Augst 2011 the day that changed the us all

Image
I couldn't sleep properly a night before.we the IAC-mira bhaynedr team consisting of hardly five or six people back then had decided to meet by 7am on mira road railway station.I was really worried as I was supposed to go to churchgate from mira road and had not travelled in local during rush hours ever.I tried to go to sleep after watching that people had been detaind already in chatrasal stadium in delhi, didn’t know what the day had in store for us.I got up as early as possible and started preparing something that my husband could have for the whole day,as he had his exams I didn’t want to disturb him.I was running a bit late but still decided to switch on the TV to get the latest update. I was really shocked to see that anna had been arrested. I could feel the rage inside of me,a man ,my grandfather’s age was arrested just because he wanted to say something, and that too for the society not for himself. Was this the country my forefathers died for.I could not control my ange...
