Is India heading towards its very own French revolution?
Many a time I wonder about the future of our country and the
future of the various movements in our country .Its very hard to foresee and
predict the future but I just can’t help wondering about the direction we are
heading towards. The very people steering this movement are themselves not very
sure of the end result. We just know that enough is enough and the time has
come when we cannot afford to sit comfortably at our own cozy home and let
these corrupt politicians do as they want to the masses of our country, we know
that if we stay silent for any longer we will be a part to the crime. Party to
the malnourishment deaths in our country, party to the mass farmer suicide,
party to the crime against women, party to a lot of things we would never like
to associate ourselves with.
We are no more mute spectators; we know we want a change but still
not very sure about the form in which we will see that change. If it will be in
the form of change in the ruling party, or in the form of mid term polls or
some may even think of martial law being imposed in the country, I don’t know.
Whole world is getting restless now it seems.
Will india ever get its Tahrir square? Cant say, people often tell
me that we Indians by our very nature are peace loving. We are the land of
Buddha and Gandhi, we can’t kill anyone. But I suppose Parisians by their very
nature are very much peace loving, they surrendered during second world war
just so that Paris museum doesn’t get destroyed in bombing. They are the people
known for their love of art and music but little is known about their
inclination towards violence. But yet during French revolution these very
people publicly beheaded their Rulers .What made them so violent? Often I
wonder, maybe they were not being offensive, they were just defending
themselves. They wanted their kids to live, have a healthy life, they did not
want masters anymore who were so busy in organizing grand parties for their
oversees guests that they didn’t even see the misery of their own people.
Mary Antonnette, the Austria born queen cared very little for
her subjects,”If people cannot afford bread, let them have cake”.this statement
ensured her a spot in history books around the world.Reminds me of the
statement made by our very own home grown and Harvard read minister. The Rulers
of france were very far away from the ground reality. Their subjects were
forced to live in extreme poverty when they hosted parties for dignitaries from
around the world.
These people sitting in power today are the ones elected by us but
working for their own welfare and welfare of the MNCs which bribe them at our
cost. They will let the kids die of hunger, farmers die of debt, but will fill
their pockets first. They raise the praises of essential commodities, levy
heavier taxes, making it harder and harder for us to make the ends meet. I feel
if they exert force on us now while we are standing against this injustice they
will see something like French revolution here but
the question remains, will we defend ourselves in the same manner?
